WRITER | TEACHER | SCHOLAR
Hi! Welcome to my website. This is a place to see what I’ve been up to and what I’m working on.
I am currently developing workshops for K-12 teachers on the topics of queer ecojustice, ecoliteracies, and children’s literature. Be in touch if you would like me to facilitate or speak at an event.
In my academic life I am usually thinking about the intersections of children’s literature and queer ecologies. You can find my academic bio and C.V. in the About section, as well as a list of publications here.
I love teaching and have designed both graduate and undergraduate courses that bring together my interest in queer ecologies, creative process, pedagogical reflection, and children’s cultures. You can check out the syllabi for some of these courses in the Teaching section of this site.
I have published my research across various international journals and edited anthologies. You can find more about my academic publications and also my creative writing here.
Before kids and grad school I was a singer-songwriter and an amateur circus aerialist. I volunteered in community radio and worked in harm reduction as well as in various educational roles as a teacher, support worker, and consultant. These days I teach as a sessional lecturer at SFU while building my portfolio as an educational consultant.
As I navigate life transitions and chart new directions personally and professionally, I find myself once again leaning into those old creative parts – picking up my guitar, writing stories, and dangling from a trapeze (hello new special interest). Here’s to the queer joy of sideways growth and circular movement from the messy middle of it all.
More to come! xo Kit
