Stories are how we understand and make worlds, and so my teaching blends theory and story (and story as theory) as vital to our collective work of meaning-making. Following feminist and queer pedagogies, I believe we can strategically orient ourselves in our reading and critical thinking toward imagining and creating a world that is more just and inclusive. My text selection is cross-disciplinary and multi-modal and I encourage and mentor students toward creative inquiry across genres and mediums in their coursework and assessments.
I have taught graduate and undergraduate courses at Simon Fraser University in the Faculty of Education. Most recently I designed and taught EDUC 816 (focused on Ecologies of Children’s Literature) and EDUC 823 (focused on Pedagogies of Creative Writing for Youth) as part of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Children’s and Young Adult Literature program.
